The new league was to have teams placed in Toronto, Minneapolis, Houston, Denver,
Buffalo and Queens (and eventually Atlanta and Dallas). While Shea felt that a
new league could be very successful in these cities, he was most concerned about
New York. Getting a new Major League team within the New York City limits was
Shea's #1 priority. After some heated negotiations Major League Baseball decided
to back down and make a deal with William A. Shea. |
