1968 saw a major change come to Bowman Field. They would change leagues for the first time in their 40+ year history with Double-A Eastern League. They would become members of the Short Season Single-A NY Penn League. (The NY-Penn League of their earliest years would actually become the Eastern League and was unrelated to the NY-Penn League of today). The new team was the Williamsport Astros. Despite the name, the team would play as a co-op in 1968 and not become an "official affiliate" until 1969.
