It was the dog days of August in 1987. The Williamsport Bills were a 7th place team and were playing the last place Reading Phillies in what seemed to be an inconsequential ballgame. The Grand-nephew of Hall of Famer Roger Bresnahan... Catcher Dave Bresnahan was behind the plate when Reading put a man on third who would be ready to score on a base hit or Sac Fly. Bresnahan however had a very bizarre idea. He threw over to 3rd to get the runner's attention... and purposely sailed the seemingly white baseball over his head and into left field. With that the runner came sprinting home where he was suddenly tagged out by Bresnahan with the "real baseball". Apparently, the bright white object that sailed into left field wasn't a baseball at all... but a peeled potato.
