The Double-A Eastern League returned  beautiful vintage Wahconah Park to full professional service when the Boston Red Sox signed a PDC with Pittsfield in 1965. The new Pittsfield Red Sox immediately made an impact on the E.L. by going 85-55. Future Boston slugger George Scott would slam 30 doubles, 25 homers and bat .319, while Reggie Smith hit 23 doubles and batted .259 helping the Pittsfield Red Sox to take 1st place and the Eastern League Championship in their inaugural season. Sparky Lyle (4-2, 3.65) & the "Spaceman", Bill Lee (6-2, 2.06) would join future Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk (18 2b, 10 HR, .243) at Wahconah Park over the next few seasons.
