Eastwood Field (Cafaro Field) Niles Ohio Home of the Mahoning Valley Scrappers (NY-Penn League) and the Youngstown State University Penguins (NCAA Division I) |
Niles Ohio is a rather small town, which by itself probably couldn't support professional
baseball, but since it is a part pf the suburbia that makes up the metropolis
of Youngstown Ohio, it has plenty of residential areas to draw from. The
ballpark is located about 12 miles northwest of the city. Since it is not actually
located in Youngstown proper, the team named itself after the Mahoning Valley
region instead of calling themselves the "Youngstown Scrappers". With most
residents living in the outer suburbs (such as Austintown, Bordentown, Gerard,
Deforest and Churchill), it seemed more "inclusive" to name the team after the
Mahoning Valley area (giving its area rather than the city Youngstown itself. |
