NY-Penn League
(Short Season Single-A)
The Clippers would take the field in 1996 behind the hitting of 1B Brad Crede who hit .275 with 15 2Bs and 8 HR along with 51 RBI. He would be joined by Dave Francia who hit .289 with 16 SB. Since it was the first year at the new ballpark, for a short time, these would be start the new records. While the hitting was okay, it was the pitching that really shone through… especially the performance by Evan Thomas who went 10-2 in his 13 starts along with a 2.89 ERA. Brian Miller was also outstanding with an 8-3 record and 2.07 ERA and Kyle Kawabata went 1-2-20 saves in the closer spot. Together this team went 42-33 which somehow managed not to qualify for the playoffs. While it was a shame to waste such a good season at the new ballpark, plenty of good quality baseball lay ahead.
