In 1998, the Clippers officially changed their name to the Batavia Muckdogs, after a fan contest to provide a new name for the team came up with … Muckdogs. Not really sure what a Muckdog is, (well this is one) but like almost every team in baseball now, their names are either a something dog or something cat so just put any word in front of dog or cat and you now have a new team name. (Rock Cats, River Dogs, Mud Cats, Sea Dogs, Fisher Cats, Salt Dogs, Valley Cats, River Cats, Rail Cats…) Either way… the Muckdogs did seem to bring on the talent as future Philly Geoff Geary was outstanding putting up a 9-1, 1.60 record and taking over the ERA title of the new Dwyer Stadium II.
