Baseball not only began to spread north of the border, but towards the West as well. We believe it may have been the "Gold Rush" that sent hordes of "Easterners" for the great Pacific Northwest, in search of fortune. They would bring the game with them and before long… baseball had spread across the Rockies to Seattle and British Columbia. Vancouver began fielding amateur teams and contests at the running and bicycle track known as the Brockton Oval. Seattle meanwhile began building new ballparks as well to house their franchises who would often play against Vancouver.  The strong level of interest in these contests caused the team to move to the better quality Oppenheimer Park on Powell Street. Still, despite the growing popularity… these would remain amateur contests and it was free for all to see. That was until 2 businessmen realized the game's potential...
