By the mid-1800's, baseball was beginning to get a foothold in America with its first true "Professional" team starting play in 1869 dubbed the Cincinnati Red Stockings … still known today as the Cincinnati Reds. The "States" however, hardly had a monopoly on the game as it had already long ago spread into Canada, with the earliest documented game taking place going all the way back to June 4, 1838 *Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame. The game was a bit different however and featured 5 bases and an 11 man lineup. Southwestern Ontario adopted the "American Rules" officially in 1860 as the London Tecumsehs became one of the first franchises to play against American teams. Professional versions of the original team still play in one of the oldest ballparks in the world at London Ontario's Labatt Park.
