After an off year in 1941 leaving the Capilanos out of the playoffs for the first time since coming back to Athletic Park, the Vancouver Capilanos finally got the boost they were looking for. For the first time in team history, it was announced that they were being signed to a Player Development Contract (PDC) with the Chicago Cubs, making the Capilanos the official Class B affiliate of the Cubbies. Up until now, every team that has ever served at Athletic Park (or for that matter at Con Jones Stadium) has played as a co-op team. Vancouver became only the second Western International League (today known as the Single-A Northwest League) to receive a PDC as Wenatchee served for 3 seasons as the Yankees' Class B franchise, two years earlier.
