As for the Seattle Pilots, they were in existence for just half a season and when they did field a Short-Season Single-A team, they chose Newark New York's Colburn Park over Joe Martin Field (probably because this ballpark wasn't yet on anyone's radar). Luckily this ballpark wouldn't have to wait for the Seattle Mariners to come into existence in 1977 to finally begin play. The Los Angeles Dodgers as it would turn out, found this place before hand and in 1973… (a decade after opening its doors), Joe Martin (then known as Civic Field) would field its first Single-A franchise… the new Bellingham Dodgers. The Dodgers would sign a 4 year PDC with the ballpark and suddenly Bellingham was on its way to its historic 27 year run as a Minor League ballpark.
