The town of Bellingham is in the northernmost part of the Pacific Northwest… just 23.5 miles away from the Canadian border off of I-5 and about 90 miles north of the Seattle Mariners' Safeco Field. The ballpark's location to Seattle would make one think, that this would automatically be a natural choice for the Seattle Mariners to utilize as their Short Season Single-A affiliate. The problem of course lay in the fact that, when this ballpark opened in 1964, there were no Seattle Mariners yet (they didn't come til 1977). In fact... there wasn't even a Seattle Pilots Major League franchise either.
