The 1998 Grays Harbor Gulls began the season strong and it appeared like they had plenty of fireworks in the lineup, which featured Christopher Vasquez (31 2Bs, 21 HRs, .304) and Jon Fuller (19 2Bs, 18 HRs, .293). The question was, would anybody be there to see it. The answer was sadly enough... no. A month into the season, the Gulls ownership went to the league to state that they could no longer continue playing in Hoquaim. Attendance was too low to keep the franchise afloat. The league office took over the ballclub while the team was on the road... and kept them on the road. They would never go home again. As it became painfully clear that the Grays Harbor Gulls were no more, the league changed the team's name mid-season to the Western Warriors. The team would finish the season with a 68 game road trip and somehow managed to make the playoffs.
