There was some hitting as well with Rickey Hill leading the team in power hitting 10 doubles, 15 Hrs and batting .286. James Gattis (21 2B, 8 HR, .298) and Rick Seid (11 2B, 8 HR, .272) also provided a strong bat while Paul Stevens was by far the best all around hitter batting an excellent .335 with 10 2Bs and 4 HRs. Together this team came together and put up a 47-23 record stealing 1st place and winning the Northwest League Championship... the only time that any Grays Harbor team would ever win a title. The excellent play finally brought Grays Harbor a Major League affiliation. The New York Mets signed up with the Grays Harbor Loggers and made them their Single-A franchise. Some record books have the team listed as the Grays Harbor Loggers while others as the Grays Harbor Mets. Either way, the Mets turned this team around again to downright awful. So much so that it made the former awful teams of Grays Harbor look really good.
