Up until now, Lacrosse and Soccer (Football) had been a part of the old Brockton Oval which also served as an amateur baseball park. Brockton Oval however dated back to the late 1800's and was starting to show its age. There wasn't a proper professional sports stadium other than Athletic Park to host soccer and lacrosse at. Though Athletic Park was a rather stunning wooden ballpark… it didn't quite have the dimensions to host other sporting events properly. Con Jones was hoping that building a new stadium specifically "not for baseball", would make his new arena the main destinations for sporting events in Vancouver.
