The 1893 Cardinals (Browns) would move into their new ballpark with the hope and intentions of turning their team around, but it was not in the "Cards" so to speak (sorry for that …). The St. Louis ballclub would finish in 10th place in the National League with a 57-75 record. Tommy Dowd's 59 Stolen Bases would lead a team which gathered a total of 250 SB's for the season... a very telling foreshadow of what Cardinals baseball would grow up to be when the game modernized itself… as the St. Louis Cardinals of the future would be marked by terrific speedsters and base stealers. Perry Werden also showed off his skills utilizing the 470 foot Left Field area (while RF was barely 290) to garner 29 triple-baggers on the season.
