Northwest Park features a 3 story main concession stand, luxury box and press box
behind home plate. This is a commonly found configuration in upper quality American
Legion parks. The grandstand itself is made of 6 separate aluminum bleachers
that dot the left field and right field lines. Since the dugouts which are
right next to the franchise are well above ground, the grandstand sections don't
begin until past the dugout sections on each side, so as not to block the view.
The areas just to the left and right of home plate are open (except for a picnic
table right next to the 1st base dugout), so that fans have the ability bring
a lawn chairs to stay close to the action if they wish. The Silkworms franchise
was named after the fact that Manchester was one of the leading silk manufacturers
in America during the mid-1800's. The actual silk mills and housing for
workers are still standing in Mancherster and are National Historic Landmarks
(though according to wiki, they have been converted into loft housing in recent
years). |
