Pittsfield already had a beautiful vintage baseball park named Wahconah Park (built in 1919) which was perfect for the NECBL. It had been used as a Single-A ballpark by the Houston Astros and New York Mets up until 2001 but those teams brand new ballparks in Troy and Brooklyn New York. The Can-Am League then came in for a few seasons afterwards, but was now vacant for over a year,  Dan Duquette set about buying an NECBL team and moving it to Pittsfield's Wahconah Park, which would set up a great new baseball rivalry in his hometown state of Massachusetts.
