In 1969, Stanky came to Mobile Alabama. With All-Star appearances and Manager of the Year Awards on his resume, Stanky took over the University of South Alabama's Baseball Program. This move took U. of S.A. to whole new level. In 14 seasons, Stanky compiled a 488-193 (.717) record with 5 NCAA Tournament appearances. He loved coaching here so much that when he got to take over the Texas Rangers as their new Manager in 1977, he quit 18 hours later… homesick for his beloved Mobile, and the Jaguars. Eddie Stanky would make the Mobile Baseball Hall of Fame in 1990 and would spend the remainder of his life in this town. In 1980, this stadium opened up as a permanent memorial to the man who dedicated his post-MLB baseball life (even to the point of giving up on Major League positions thereafter), to the USA  Jaguars… Eddie Stanky
