Surrounding the ballfield was a horse racing track, which Columbia Gardens also served throughout the year. The Miners meanwhile continued on in the league in 1903, after it changed its name to the Pacific National League. 2 major teams joined the league with this change over, Los Angeles and San Francisco. They would drop out in 1904 however, along with Tacoma and Helena. Despite the drop to only 4 teams, the Pacific National League was promoted to the highest Class A status.
