The Tractors would feature some great players over the next few years... in 1926,
Herman Layne (.360, 17 HR) would lead the league in hitting in while Hal Smith
(19-9, 2.68) would tie for the lead in wins. In 1927 Bill Mizeur would lead the
league in HRs (23), RBI (128), Hits (186) and Runs (125), while batting .354
but lose the Triple-Crown when fellow teammate Red Smith would lead the league
in hitting with .370. A Triple-Crown would be in the cards for Peoria that year
however as Ralph Judd led the league in Wins (21-6) ERA (2.06) and Strikeouts
(121). Sadly, the Tractors wouldn't be able to repeat their 1925 heroics as they
would finish 2nd, in both seasons. |
