Janesville was first granted a Minor League Baseball team in 1941 just before the war. The "Janesville Cubs" were part of the Wisconsin State League... a Class D league that played throughout America's dairyland. The league had begun in 1940 (and was not affiliated with the league that had played from 1905-1907), with 6 teams in LaCrosse, Fon Du Lac, Wisconsin Rapids, Sheboygan, Green Bay and Appleton. In 1941, Janesville and Oshkosh joined the league as the ranks swelled to 8 teams.
