There was worry that there would not be a place for professional baseball to play when the war came to an end and that Big Spring would lose its tradition of Minor League Baseball. A new Class C League, "the Longhorn League" was scouting for potential cities for its inaugural 1947 season and Big Spring wanted to be a part of their inaugural roster. The local high school (now Big Spring Junior High School) would step up to make sure that when the Longhorn League came calling, a new ballpark for their town would be good to go.
