Elmer Kelley Stadium was built in 1941 but didn't see professional baseball for 5 years. The reason is obvious. Though the intention of this ballpark was probably to attract a Kitty League franchise, the Kitty League would cease play for 4 full seasons (as did most professional leagues) because of WWII. When the Kitty League finally returned after its 4 year hiatus, this ballpark was immediately added the to league's roster of 8 teams, as the  White Sox made this their Class D home.
