Ned Skeldon Stadium was built in 1965 to replace Swayne Field, which was demolished
10 years earlier. Swayne Field, which was built in 1909 at the corner of Detroit
and Monroe, had been a beloved part of Toledo history. It's age however, caught
up to it. The MudHens had been a mainstay of the Triple-A American Association.
When Swayne Field was demolished in 1956, it brought a 10 year drought of
professional baseball to Toledo. |
