Parker Field was actually 2 separate grandstands... a longer section which ran down
3rd base and then around home plate, and a separate section down the 1st baseline.
Both sections were covered with a roof and were known for huge lighting
banks which stood on top of them, that seemed like they belonged in Tiger Stadium
more than at Parker Field. The stadium had been built in 1934, but not necessarily
for baseball. Parker Field was a fairgrounds facility and the grandstand
served as a venue for concerts and mud pulls and such. Professional Baseball was
played at Mooers Field throughout the post war years. |
