Despite all of that... Harbor Park looks as lovely as it did the day it opened. Not only has she outlasted all of her predecessors... but we may be changing this conversation in the future to state that it has lasted "twice as long as any Norfolk based ballpark that came before her". The reason is simple... Harbor Park is as relevant and as modern as the day that HOK / Populous dreamed her up ... just upon the completion and grand-opening of the most famous ballpark they would ever create... the Baltimore Orioles' "Oriole Park @ Camden Yards". Most ballpark lovers erroneously believe that Jacobs Field (aka Progressive Field) ... home of the Cleveland Indians, was the follow up to Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Jacobs Field actually debuted in 1994 and while that ballpark was the next "HOK/Populous Major League" stadium... Harbor Park (opening in 1993) was actually the follow-up to Camden Yards... not Jacobs Field.
( Note the beginning of the "lollipop" lighting which would be refined even further to become one of the hallmarks of
Jacobs Field).
