One thing that made Oriole Park @ Camden Yards stand out so much was that ... while it was a beautiful stadium architecturally, there was no doubt that its deepest impact came from the views that surrounded it... Baltimore's downtown views and the massive B&O Warehouse in LF. HOK immediately identified that this new ballpark should rise up in a place that captured what Norfolk was truly all about... the massive ships, military sea vessels and ports that made this town so special and important to America. A site was chosen right at the base of the Elizabeth River where the boat traffic and shipbuilding would be the "dramatic backdrop" in the way that the B&O Warehouse and Baltimore's skyline were to Camden Yards. Work had already begun to bring Harbor Park to life on February 21st, 1992... two months before the Baltimore Orioles' Camden Yards would even debut to its inaugural opening day crowd.
