When historic Crockett Park (aka Calvin Griffith Park) burned to the ground, it was a devistating moment for Charlotte North Carolina. The ballpark had produced 3 Hall of Famers and had been the home to all professional baseball in Charlotte since 1940. The city suddenly was without a place to play and scrambled quickly to put a stadium together. They would spend 3 years playing in 5000 seats worth of makeshift bleachers around the old Crockett Park field while deciding what to do next.
