The Honkbal Hoofdklasse is the Major League system of the Netherlands. The Dutch Major Leagues began play in 1922 and play in some of the best ballparks in all of Europe. Ballpark quality runs from just below Rookie League level to nearly Triple-A or Spring Training quality and as recently as 2014, a new state of the art ballpark was built near Amsterdam's Schiphol Airport in Hoofddorp, with the ability to expand to as much as 30,000 capacity. Unlike in North America, Honkbal Hoofdklasse franchises can be dropped from the league if they show an extended period of poor performance. Minor League "Honkbal Overgangsklasse" franchises meanwhile, can rise to the Major Leagues if they can prove that they can win with consistency.
