When the ballpark was built in 1988, Baseball City was able to lure the Kansas City Royals away from Ft. Myers' vintage Terry Park. The Royals had been training at Terry Park since they came into existance in 1969. Terry Park would eventually succumb to hurricane damage in 2004. Still, the 50 year old Terry Park would outlast Baseball City Stadium.
