The 2nd place finish in that 1988 inaugural year is the best the Baseball City Royals would accomplish. Jeff Conine would return in 1989 and hit .279 with 14 homers and 37 stolen bases, and Sean Berry would get his batting average up into the .266 range stealing 32 bases and hitting another 4 home runs. They would finish in 4th but still make the playoffs which they lost in the 1st round. With Conine and Berry promoted to Double-A for 1990, Jacob Brumfield led the team to a miserable 11th place finish... batting .307 with 0 Hrs but 47 stolen bases.
