Thomas L. Bell Stadium replaced the "Americus Municipal Playgrounds" which had served Americus In the Georgia Florida League and was home to Shoeless Joe Jackson who was their field manager in the early 1920s, after he was banished from professional baseball. The ballpark however was a very simple one and Mayor Thomas Bell worked very hard to get a proper baseball stadium built for his city.
