The Mavericks had a clause in their 5 year contract to opt out of the 1996 season at Taylor Stadium. They decided to play on and owner George Wendt was so convinced that this season would be a turn around year for the team, that he promised to return half their ticket price to the fans if they finished under .500. As Tim Perry of the Frontier League History Pages (http://flhistory.
explained "Ownership must have been disappointed when the team lost their first ten games of the
new season." Nothing changed. Most of the team was as bad as ever, though there were a few players who would easily have the best seasons in Mavericks history.
