River City Rascals
The new River City Rascals were led by former St. Louis Cardinals slugger Jack Clark. A fan favorite, the new manager led an unbalanced team which showed some excellent power (Aaron Jaworowski 17 2B, 16 HR, .290; Jason Rakers 19 2B, 15 HR, .296; Mike Robertson 15 2B, 13 HR, .314; Tim Still 13 HR, .249), the combination of which led the league in home runs. Pitching however was very weak. Tom Miller had a great 10-2 record despite a 4.22 ERA. Joey Pipes (who pitched a complete game 1-0 loss in the Rascals' first ever game here) was 4-6 with a 4.46 ERA. The rest of the rotation and much of the bullpen escalated from there into the 6.00 and even 7.00 range in ERA, causing the team to finish with a 39-45 record. Despite finishing tied for last place, the fans were thrilled to have a new minor league team in their vicinity.
