The River City Rascals can trace their roots all the way back to the Zanesville Greys who played from 1993 to 1996 at the old Mid-Atlantic League Minor League ballpark, Gant Municipal Stadium. The franchise went on hiatus for several years before finally finding a new home here in O'Fallon Missouri. The Rascals, who joined the Frontier League with the Cook County Cheetahs, began a new era for the Frontier League. The F.L. had previously played all of their games in small towns with long forgotten Minor League ballparks of yesteryear. According to Tim Perry of the Frontier League history site, http://flhistory.gofreeserve.com/, the River City Rascals and T.R. Hughes Stadium marked the first time that a ballpark had been built specifically for the Frontier League and the first time that the F.L. had begun playing in a metropolitan area.
