The new franchise would be dubbed the "Southern Illinois Miners", to widen the team's appeal to all of the local towns and communities of this area. The Miners are members of the Independent Frontier League... an independent minor league system that isn't related to Major/Minor League Baseball. The Frontier League however is one of the premier Independent Leagues in the country. In 2013, the F.L. celebrated over 20 years of uninterrupted professional baseball. Last year its franchises drew over 1.5 million fans per year... making it one of the most successful and stable indy leagues in the history.
