In 1997, the Heartland League's Will County Cheetahs announced that they would be leaving their home Brennan Field at Lewis University for a much bigger and better thing... the new Hawkinson Ford Field (known today as Standard Bank Stadium). The Cheetahs said a tearful goodbye to Lewis University (not that tearful really...) and went due east to Crestwood, to find a ballpark that wasn't even close to being completed. In fact, it was completely uninhabitable. So much so, that there was no way that baseball was going to be played there anytime until perhaps... 1999?
