The Chiefs only lasted the one season before giving way to the Boston Red Sox. The new Lafayette Red Sox would play 2 seasons at Loeb Stadium, and produce one notable baseball pitcher... Tracy Stallard. Stallard would spend 8 years in the major leagues, and a few of those with the early New York Mets. Stallard quickly racked up 37 losses in just 2 seasons. In 1958, the Lafayette Red Sox announced that they were moving to Waterloo Iowa. There would be no replacement team for the Red Sox. Columbia Park Recreation Center would sit dormant to professional baseball for 36 years.
