While the storm clouds had rolled in, the sun hadn't completely set on Pompano Municipal Stadium just yet. In 1989, a new professional league had come to Florida. It was called the Senior Professional Baseball Association. Basically it was a group of retired Major League Baseball Players who attempted to create their own "senior circuit". The league would play during the winter at many of their former spring training facilities. It was an 8 team league, with teams in the classic stadiums of Bradenton, Fort Myers, Orlando, Winter Haven, West Palm Beach, St. Petersburg and St. Lucie (the one modern new stadium).
