In 1966, Minor League Baseball began to garner some interest in Pompano Municipal Stadium. The Chicago White Sox had been playing Advanced Single-A baseball in the Florida State League's Payne Park in Sarasota. After 4 years of playing at Payne Park, the Chisox decided to make a move and place their 1966 Single-A FSL team here in Pompano Beach. The new team was called the "Deerfield Beach Sun Sox". We're not sure why they referenced Deerfield Beach and not Pompano Beach, but we do know (according to Gord Brown, SABR Ontario) that they played here.
