On May 29th 1934 the Lake Charles Explorers were a game above .500 with a 14-13 record. Everything looked great until that evening when Legion Field went up in flames and burned to the ground. Without much choice, the team had to move to Jeanette's High School Stadium for the rest of the season. It would turn out to be a good thing in the long run, as the Jeanette would successfully field a franchise until 1939. Legion Field meanwhile was rebuilt more to the ballpark we know today, though there have since been many major renovations.
