Lake Charles was awarded a franchise in the new Evangeline League which opened in
1934. It was a great oportunity for Lake Charles as this new league opened with
great anticipation. Many of the big towns of Louisiana would play against each
other making a fantastic rivalry amongst the local cities. Legion Field was expected
to be one of the cornerstones of the league because of the quality of its
ballpark. Everything was coming together for the Lake Charles Explorers as they
began its inaugural season. Little did they know they wouldn't even make it
past the first 2 months. |
