Vincent Beck Stadium has the home of the NCAA Division I Lamar University Cardinals since it first opened in 1969, under the name "Cardinal Field". The quality of ballparks utilized for NCAA competition rises quickly as you go from the North to South where the warmth stays longer and baseball is played throughout the year. Vincent Beck Stadium is a perfect example. This ballpark was is in fact, of such high quality, that it was also used for Double-A Texas League baseball for a period of 4 years, from 1983-1986. The Central League (then known as the Texas Louisiana League) also utilized this ballpark in 1994.
