Duplessis promised everyone that day that things were going to change for all Quebec citizens by the following season. He had a plan to not just bring the best quality baseball that Canada had ever seen to northern Quebec.... but that by doing so, he would be creating so many new jobs for the thousands of men who were suffering from the ongoing Depression. Prime Minister Duplessis had been watching closely what FDR had done in America with the "Works Progress Administration" by building "things" all over America in order to create new construction jobs. So many were out of work and suffering from the debilitating Depression which had taken over the USA in the 1930's and things were no better in Canada. One of the most common "things" that was being built in America by the WPA was the "Ballpark". New stadiums rose all over North America (many of which are still in use today) for Minor League teams to make a new home in. This gave not only jobs to people who had not worked in years but something wonderful for people to do for entertainment... go out on a summer's afternoon or evening and meet up with your friends, family and neighbors and cheer on your local baseball team. It was the depression after all and some cheering needed to come to small and mid-town America... and now the same would come to Quebec thanks to Prime Minister Duplessis.
