Throughout this period, beautiful Pynchon Park was utilized as the only home for professional baseball in Springfield, that was until 1966 when it all came to an end. The Giants would move to Municipal Stadium in Waterbury for the 1966 season, but that wasn't the worst news. In August of 1966, Pynchon Park burned to the ground. This brought a permanent end to professional baseball's ability to return to Springfield Massachusetts.
