The White Sox had wanted to move down to the Southern Division and the Detroit Tigers were looking for a move north. The Tigers had been playing in the Southern League, at vintage Rickwood Field in Birmingham Alabama. The White Sox were quite intrigued by this location (though not necessarily by Rickwood Field itself) and swapped ballparks with the Tigers. The Sox would go on to build a new ballpark in Birmingham, while the Tigers would make this their home for 3 seasons.
