On the mound for the 1926 New Haven Profs was Sam Hyman (20-9, 2.52), a returning future Senators’ Frank Loftus (16-11, 2.87), Dan Woodman (16-10, 2.87), future Philadelphia Phillies’ Chet Nichols (13-6, 2.37) and future St. Louis Browns’ Fay Thomas (15-4, 2.29) who became Donovan Field’s new ERA king. The New Haven Profs behind  all of this incredible talent forged ahead to a 91-60 record which was good enough for 2nd place but not good enough to bring a championship home to Donovan Field. That would have to wait another season… or more as the Profs would drop in the standings considerably in 1927. Elmer Bowman would return but would come back to earth batting .282 with 25 2Bs and 9 HRs. On the mound, future Cincinnati Reds’ Dutch Kemner became the 2nd pitcher to reach the 20 loss mark going 13-20, 3.78. Future St. Louis Cardinals’ Lou North meanwhile took over the ERA title but had little to show for it going 12-12, 2.23. The Profs finished 6 games under .500 in 5th place with a  74-80.
