Exterior of Stade Amedée-Roy II - Eastern League era - circa 1970's
Claro Duany returned in 1949 to lead the league in RBI's with 99 but it was in 1950 that things really got exciting here in Sherbrooke. Major League Baseball assigned the Provincial League to an official Class C rating, now bringing affiliated Minor League Baseball back to Quebec once again. Still... it would take some time before teams were actually assigned "official affiliates". Sherbrooke returned to the field with good enough numbers to finish in 2nd place thanks to Silvio Garcia's 29 2B, league leading 21 HRs, league leading 150 Hits, league leading 116 RBIs and league leading.365 performance and Louis Shapiro's league leading 18-4, 2.58 on the mound. Sherbrooke invited 95,000 fans to the ballpark in 1950 for 2nd in the league. They would make the playoffs winning the first round but lost in the finals to St. Jean in the 7th game of the Championship Series. In 1951 Stade Amedée-Roy welcomed a dual 23 HR hitting combo platter with Miguel Ballester (25 2B, 23 HR, .282) joining another fine season by Claro Duany (23 2B, 23 HR, .337). Silvio Garcia also returned to hit .346 with 34 2B and 12 HR. This put the Sherbrooke Athlétiques on top with a 73-50 record as 100,000 fans (the all time record for Sherbooke) came through the gates to watch the Athlétiques go all the way this time to win their second Provincial League Championship Trophy.
