American Legion Memorial Stadium made its professional debut in 1950 when it hosted its first Class C Cotton League team, the Monroe Sports. The franchise was originally known as the Seaporters, and had been playing at Recreation Park in Helena Arkansas, before the 1950 season. The team began its tenure as a co-op franchise with no particular Major League affiliation.
